APATO brings authentic Japanese furniture and lighting to Australia. Not Japanese-inspired, not Japandi-styled, the real thing: designed and made in Japan by the country's most respected makers.

Made in Japan, and that matters

Australia is full of furniture that borrows the Japanese look. We do the opposite. Every piece we sell is handcrafted in Japan by makers with decades, in some cases more than a century, of heritage. Karimoku has worked timber in Aichi since 1940. CondeHouse has crafted solid wood in Asahikawa, Hokkaido since 1968. Yamagiwa has shaped light in Tokyo since 1923. So while our pieces sit comfortably in a Japandi interior, what you are actually buying is the genuine article, with the provenance to prove it.

An authorised home for Japan's finest makers

APATO is the authorised Australian stockist for the brands we represent, including Karimoku, CondeHouse, Ariake, Yamagiwa, Miyazaki Chair Factory, Ishinomaki Laboratory, Nissin Mokkou and more. Each piece is sourced directly from the maker, made in Japan, and built to be passed down rather than replaced.

Curated, not assembled

We are a specialist team, not a department store. Every brand we carry is chosen personally, for its craft, its materials and its integrity, never because it follows a trend. We would rather represent fewer makers and know each one deeply, so that when you ask about a timber, a joint or a lead time, you get a real answer.

For homes, and for projects

From a single heirloom dining table to a complete residential, hospitality or workplace fit-out, we help discerning clients choose Japanese pieces that are as considered as the spaces they live and work in.
