Designed by Oki Sato's acclaimed studio nendo, the SPLINTER Shell Chair turns advanced woodworking into quiet sculpture. Each arm frame is bent and laminated, then “splintered” into finely detailed finger-joint intersections — curved cross-sections that peel away to form pliable, graceful offshoots, leaving a chair that is at once architectural and organic.
Handcrafted by CondeHouse in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, the SPLINTER is made from solid Japanese oak and offered across a range of upholstery finishes for residential, hospitality and workplace interiors. Like every CondeHouse piece, it is built to last for generations from sustainably sourced timber.

Oki Sato, born in Canada in 1977, established a design firm “nendo” soon after receiving a master’s degree of architecture from Waseda University in 2002. Since then he has been active internationally; selected as one of "100 Japanese people respected in the world" in Newsweek Japanese version; awarded as one of “Designer of the Year” in Italy. His major works can be seen in some world’s major museums, such as MoMa, Centre Pompidou, V&A, etc. The Olympic Cauldron Tokyo 2020 was also his design. Now, he is working on the design of TGV train cars for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
